Titanium-Zirconium-Molybdenum (TZM) Alloy

Summary

Molybdenum-titanium-zirconium (TZM) alloys contain small amounts of titanium and zirconium doped with small amounts of very fine carbides. This alloy functions most efficiently in temperature ranges of 700-1400°C (1292-2552°F). TZM alloy is much stronger than pure molybdenum. The crystallization temperature and creep resistance of this alloy is also much higher than pure molybdenum.

Molybdenum-titanium-zirconium (TZM) alloys contain small amounts of titanium and zirconium doped with small amounts of very fine carbides. This alloy functions most efficiently in temperature ranges of 700-1400°C (1292-2552°F). TZM alloy is much stronger than pure molybdenum. The crystallization temperature and creep resistance of this alloy is also much higher than pure molybdenum.

TZM as the high-voltage rectifier element, semiconductor thin film integrated circuits, cathode tube, gate, CT scan X-ray tube target used in electrical and electronic industry. TZM X-ray tube is used in CT scanning systems for scanning. During scanning, the metal disc of X-ray tube target rotating with 3,000 ~ 10,000 r/min rotation speed and the surface temperature exceeds 2,000 ℃. TZM alloy not only has good high temperature property, but it has good corrosion resistance, so suitable for X-ray tube target production.

TZM alloy also can be produced into bars, bars, nozzle shape, and other shape and be used in hot runner systems. Using for hot runner production Mo alloy includes TZM alloy, molybdenum tungsten alloy and molybdenum rare earth alloy. Among these molybdenum alloys, TZM alloy has the most widely used. Mainly because TZM alloy has good thermal conductivity and low coefficient of expansion, and at high temperature (1100-1650 ℃) has high strength. What’s more it is easy to processing than tungsten.

TZM alloy may also be applied to color television and be used in agitator. The agitator operates in the high temperature and suffers relative force between high temperature impact and glass stirring force. So this agitator should have high temperature resistance and high strength property, so that it used for blender production with long time can not distort or occur brittle fracture to prepare high-performance products.

TZM alloy is used in military industries are also very extensive. TZM is often produced as a valve body in torpedo, rocket nozzles, gas pipeline, the nozzle throat lining and so on.

TZM alloy has a higher melting point, and therefore often as ferrous or non-ferrous metal die-casting mold materials and piercing plug of seamless stainless steel. Besides, it was be made to TZM sheet used in high temperature furnace wall and heat shield of hot isostatic pressing machine. What’s more, TZM has good high temperature performance, high strength property, and anti-radiation property, so TZM alloy is also used more widely in the nuclear energy equipment, such as a radiation shield, cage, heat exchangers, rails, and so on.
